An afternoon for all choir directors, organists, and pianists.

Michael McCracken (Down Cathedral) and Stephen Shaw (St. Mark’s, Newtownards) will be explaining how the work of the RSCM is going to be revitalised in Northern Ireland to give assistance and support to affiliated choirs from all over the Province. Today’s session starts with the leaders.

In addition, resources for Advent and Christmas will be made available. Pieces will be sung and rehearsed/discussed.

Refreshments provided.

Voice for Life Awards Service

Christ Church Cathedral Dublin

We will be celebrating the success of some 45 Voice for Life award winners with a special service at Christ Church. Evensong will be sung by the award winners, together with the altos, tenors and basses of Christ Church Cathedral Choir. All are very warmly welcome to attend to celebrate the achievements of our young (and not so young) Church musicians. There will be refreshments in the cathedral’s crypt after the service.

Solemn High Mass

St Patrick's Church, Donegall Street, Belfast

Schola Gregoriana of Belfast (Directed by Eamon Manning) will be singing at a Solemn High Mass (Usus Antiquior) for the Feast of the Assumption on Saturday 15th August at 4.00pm.

The Mass takes place at St Patrick’s Church, Donegall Street in Belfast. This will be the first Solemn High Mass in Belfast for at least 45 years.

Voice for Life Award Winners' Service

Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin

A special Evensong service will take place in Christ Church Cathedral, sung by 25 young people who are all Bronze, Silver or Gold Voice for Live award winners. The singers are all members of either the Palestrina Choir of the Pro Cathedral, St Bartholomew’s Church Ballsbridge, or Christ Church Girls Choir.

During the service, the award winners will be presented with their certificates by the Dean of Christ Church, the Very Revd Dermot Dunne, together with the Administrator of St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, Canon John Flaherty.

The music will be directed by RSCM Ireland Education Officer, Ms Judy Martin, and the award winners will sing alongside the lay vicars of the cathedral choir.

Gregorian Chant Workshop

Schola Gregoriana of Belfast will be hosting a Gregorian Chant Workshop, building on the success and subsequent demand from the workshop it hosted in October 2007. This year the workshop will be directed by Mr Nick Gale, an experienced choral director of both adults and children and a noted authority on early Church Music. Mr Gale is currently Director of Music at St George’s Cathedral, Southwark, and Head of Academic Music at the London Oratory School - both renowned for excellence in the use and promotion of Gregorian Chant.
