Republic Committee Meeting

The next meeting of the Republic of Ireland committee will take place on Sunday 14th March at St Bartholomew’s Church, Clyde Road, Dublin 4, beginning at 7.15pm, immediately after Choral Evensong at 6.00pm, to be sung by the Girls and Gents and to which all are warmly invited.

A workshop exploring how music can contribute to (or work against) good structural purposes in worship, presented by the Rev. Peter Moger, National Worship Development Officer for the Church of England.
The workshop will investigate why worship is structured as it is together with the theology that this expresses before going on to look at how music can enable that structure to come alive.
Entrance: FREE
NOTE: The workshop will be followed by an organ recital at 20:00 to be given by Dr Eric Sweeney as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of Christ Church, Rathgar. Tickets for the recital are charged at €10.00 (€8.00), available at the door.
Voice for Life Awards Service

We will be celebrating the success of some 45 Voice for Life award winners with a special service at Christ Church. Evensong will be sung by the award winners, together with the altos, tenors and basses of Christ Church Cathedral Choir. All are very warmly welcome to attend to celebrate the achievements of our young (and not so young) Church musicians. There will be refreshments in the cathedral’s crypt after the service.

St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral are hosting “Summer Fun” - singing workshops for 14-18 year old girls and boys.
The course will be run by Blanaid Murphy, Director of the Palestrina Choir and participants will have the opportunity to improve their voices and vocal technique, sing in small ensembles and groups and to have fun singing with others.
Course participants will also sing at the 6.00pm Mass on Saturday 22 August in the Pro-Cathedral. Course fees are €100 and bookings must be received by 3rd August.

Come and Sing Fauré Requiem

Come and sing Gabriel Fauré’s matchless setting of the Requiem Mass in the stunning surrounds of St Bartholomew’s Church, Ballsbridge, Dublin.
Registration for singers is at 14.00, with the rehearsal beginning at 14.30.
A liturgical performance of the Requiem (with readings and poetry) will take place at 17.00, to which non-singers are warmly invited.
Singers are asked to bring their own score if possible. Places can be booked by contacting Peter Parshall.

Voice for Life Award Winners' Service

A special Evensong service will take place in Christ Church Cathedral, sung by 25 young people who are all Bronze, Silver or Gold Voice for Live award winners. The singers are all members of either the Palestrina Choir of the Pro Cathedral, St Bartholomew’s Church Ballsbridge, or Christ Church Girls Choir.
During the service, the award winners will be presented with their certificates by the Dean of Christ Church, the Very Revd Dermot Dunne, together with the Administrator of St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, Canon John Flaherty.
The music will be directed by RSCM Ireland Education Officer, Ms Judy Martin, and the award winners will sing alongside the lay vicars of the cathedral choir.

Pipeworks Festival 2008

2008 sees the return of the tri–annual Pipeworks Festival. Based around the Dublin International Organ Competition at Christ Church Cathedral, the festival takes place over ten days from 20 to 29 June.

Pipeworks presents a diverse and exciting programme for its thirteenth festival. This year’s programme includes performances by organ virtuosi from the UK, France, Germany, the USA and Sweden; sees sixteen young, aspiring organists from Canada, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Norway, Russia, South Korea, the UK and the USA compete to win the Dublin International Organ Competition; features beautifully programmed concerts performed by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and the National Chamber Choir; and presents a silent film with live organ accompaniment.
2008 sees the festival expanding to include recital trips to Dundalk and the beautiful cathedral city of Kilkenny with associated recitals in Galway and Wexford. Performances by the Silesian University choir from Gliwice, Poland and the National Chamber Choir acknowledge the great choral traditions of Eastern Europe
The festival also presents Ireland’s major celebration of the centenary of Olivier Messiaen’s birth, with performances of all his organ works as well as some of his choral and orchestral music. In short, a wonderful array of concerts, recitals, and masterclasses in the country’s finest churches, cathedrals and concert halls.
