News Story ~ RSCM Ireland commissions piece by Irish composer

July 15, 2015

EDesmond.jpegIn preparation for the annual awards service, RSCM Ireland has commissioned a choral piece to be specially written for the event by Irish composer, Eoghan Desmond.

Eoghan Desmond is a Dublin-based composer, conductor and bass-baritone. He holds a BA in music and an MPhil in composition, both from TCD, where he studied under Evangelia Rigaki, Matthew Barnson and Donnacha Dennehy. A choral musician since the age of 9, he composed his first mass at age 12, and has since had his choral music performed by such leading Irish ensembles as the National Chamber Choir (now Chamber Choir Ireland) and both of Dublin’s Cathedral Choirs. His music has recently been in demand in the UK, US and Australia. (Biography from the Irish Composers Collective website).

Mark Bowyer, RSCM Ireland coordinator, said “We are very excited that Eoghan has agreed to take on this commission. We are looking forward to the finished piece, which is being written for upper voices and will be premiéred at the awards service which will be held on Saturday 14 November in St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral in Dublin”.
