News Story ~ RSCM Ireland committee changes

December 12, 2015

RSCM Ireland will be going through a structural change in the next few weeks, with the amalgamation of the two current committees into one committee, that will oversee the work of the RSCM for the whole of Ireland.

20151115_170121-1.jpgThe new committee will be established on 1 January 2016 and the chair-elect is Blánaid Murphy, director of music at St Mary's Pro Cathedral in Dublin. Each of the key committee positions have been filled by people who are based in different parts of the country and have been chosen for their particular skill set. Given the regional challenges, committee meetings will take place via online platforms, with the AGM (attended by all the committee) taking place as part of an annual festival service. The festival service event will be open to all and will be directed by a guest director. Representation around the country will be maintained by ensuring that events happen at local level and are organised by local people.

Mark Bowyer will continue to act as coordinator for Ireland and will work with the new committee to ensure that the plans and aspirations of RSCM Ireland continue to be delivered and executed in line with the overall aims and objectives of the RSCM. Speaking on behalf of RSCM Ireland, Mark said "This is a very exciting time for RSCM Ireland and I am delighted that we have finally been able to restructure things here with the approval and support of Andrew Reid and the staff at RSCM HQ. I am grateful to all those who have served on the two committees over the years for all the work they have done. I am very much looking forward to working with Blánaid and the new committee members in the new year to further the work of the RSCM in Ireland".
